A night tour is a route, not a site. Visitors move through it, so the lighting should work like a sequence of scenes, arrival, build-up, highlight, pause, rather than a single picture.
Building blocks
- Ground-plane fields, reed lights, light flowers and firefly stakes in large groups along banks and lawns.
- Focal sculptures, free-standing light art at plazas and turning points.
- Canopy pieces, strings, spheres and lanterns suspended in trees.
- Architectural highlights, facades and bridges along the route lit to tie the experience to place.
- Beam lights, vertical beams for festival nights, used sparingly.
Practical points
Large installations live or die on power distribution and cabling. Low-voltage decorative pieces need planned supply points; seasonal installations need connectors that survive repeated set-up. We plan densities and cable routes from the site plan before quantities are fixed.
