The brief
A renovated central plaza needed to feel safe late at night and to keep its character as the city's meeting point.
The approach
Linear in-ground luminaires follow the main pedestrian routes. Facades around the plaza receive a soft wash to define the space, and the plaza's trees are uplit to create meeting points. Light on the paving itself is kept modest.
Points worth noting
- In-ground luminaires were set on drained gravel beds.
- Positions avoid the routes of cleaning vehicles.
